Where are The Howgills, you may ask? They are a small range of rounded hills perfectly positioned between The Lake District to the west, and The Yorkshire Dales to the east. Alfred Wainwright likened them to a “herd of sleeping elephants” - you’ve probably noticed them on your right as you head north on the M6, just before you get to Tebay services.

As well as fabulous walking on The Howgills themselves, there are beautiful walks to be enjoyed in the surrounding Yorkshire Dales. There’s something for everyone, so on this holiday you will be guided by Clare, Helen and Barbara offering Moderate, Low Moderate, and Leisurely level walks.

We'll have sole occupancy of Thorns Hall, a HF Holidays House, in the lovely town of Sedbergh, at the very base of The Howgills. Delivering on all fronts for countryside lovers, this cosy Grade II-listed manor house is just a skip away from Sedbergh – the Cumbrian market town treasured for its cobbled streets, public school, artisan shops, and bookshops (it’s known as England’s official book town for good reason). HF Houses have been popular on previous holidays for their comfortable rooms, and the choice of delicious meals and extensive packed lunch options.
