Craflwyn Hall, built on the Craflwyn Estate in the late 1890s, is set in 200 acres of dramatic valley scenery. It’s a large traditional house, full of Victorian character and charm, with space for us to gather on the lawn, round the table, in the bar or by an open fire.
All rooms have wonderful views of the mountains and the surrounding landscape. Many of the downstairs rooms open onto the extensive lawns, and you’ll find benches dotted around the gardens. There’s plenty of space for outdoor games. The conservatory opens onto a covered veranda, with room for all of us to sit and relax together. We will also have use of the bedrooms in the adjoining cottages, so it's just us on site.
And great news - lovely Sarah is on board to cater for us again with her delicious food!
Beddgelert village is less than a mile away, and a short walk leads to Dinas Emrys. This hill is famous as the site of a legendary battle between two dragons, one white and one red, perhaps the best known of the myths that abound in this area. There are many trails to follow in Craflwyn and Beddgelert, passing waterfalls, lakes, wild heath and wooded valleys.
Further afield, there are lots of beautiful places to explore - Portmerion, the Blaenau Ffestiniog Slate Quarry, the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways, Criccieth… maybe even Zipworld?!
It will be a smaller group, so there will be only one guide (me). The walks will be approximately 6 to 8 miles long, and because we are in Wales, there will be some minimal hills along the way. For the adventurous amongst you, I have been in touch with a local guide about offering some more challenging days; perhaps even an ascent of Snowdon.
