Relatively few people have heard of this quiet and stunning Area of Natural Beauty on the border of Cumbria and Lancashire, overlooking Morecambe Bay. Indeed I was the same until I lived there briefly a few years ago. And what a gem it is.

Your guide is award winning writer Beth Pipe (aka Cumbrian Rambler) who knows this area intimately. Her new book Boots and Brews looks at walks, food and folklore around the area, and follows a previous local interest guide Trails with Tales. So there's no one better to guide you!

On a previous holiday, we stayed at the excellent Willowfileld guest house in Arnside which got great feedback from the group. They don't do evening meals so we will be eating out at various locations through the village - the cost of this is not included in the price. The photo is the view from the front of the hotel at sunset at a similar time of year, which was rather stunning.

The walks are breathtaking in their variety from areas of limestone pavement, secluded woodland, wildlife-rich wetlands and coastal walking. There are castles and beaches and follies and industrial heritage and lots of lots of history to discover. The RSPB wildlife reserve at Leighton Moss is must see and I have it on good authority that they do excellent cake!
